About Us
Qmet Tech Foundation is India’s national hub for Quantum Sensing, Imaging, and Metrology, established under the National Quantum Mission (NQM) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and hosted at IIT Bombay. As one of four thematic hubs under NQM, Qmet is focused on building and commercializing indigenous quantum sensor technologies for real-world impact.
Qmet bridges the gap between quantum research and deployment by uniting 16 premier institutions, 40+ leading researchers, and a cross-sector ecosystem of academic, industrial, and government collaborators. From atomic magnetometers to NV-centre diamond microscopes and quantum photonic imaging systems—Qmet is pioneering India’s leadership in the global quantum frontier.
To pioneer cutting-edge quantum sensors—including atomic magnetometers, NV-centre sensors, and photonic imagers—and drive their development from lab to market.
To establish India as a global leader in quantum sensing by building a world-class ecosystem for technology, talent, and industry collaboration.

Our Purpose
India’s rise in quantum technologies is driven by a vision to achieve strategic self-reliance, scientific excellence, and industrial leadership. Qmet plays a pivotal role in:
Developing scalable quantum sensing platforms
Building a skilled quantum workforce
Accelerating commercialization through startups
Establishing national infrastructure for fabrication and benchmarking
Governance & Structure
Qmet operates as a Section-8 not-for-profit organization, governed by a multidisciplinary board comprising national experts from academia, policy, and industry. The hub is led by:
